I was born in Evanston, Ill, lived in St. Louis, then graduated from Yale before I moved to Nashville after working for DuPont and Electric Boat, and as a US Air Force pilot. I founded Hobby Lobby International, Inc., which was an early leader in selling on the Internet and which let me indulge my love of flying.
I have painted all my life and sold my first paintings in 1956. My paintings are in dozens of private collections. I sold Hobby Lobby and retired from it in 2008 and now devote more time to my other love — painting.
I particularly like paintings that seem to generate their own light and in paintings that can suggest different moods to different viewers. I only use oil paints, not acrylics. I like the infinite range of colors that only oil paints can give.
