Chris seeks to interpret the complexity of the human dynamic from both a personal standpoint and a social perspective while revealing her fundamental desire to explore color. Influenced by abstractionists like Marisa Purcell, she experiments with the application of paint color to canvas. Chris uses the texture created by making marks through and with the paint to depict the depth of her subject matter, which she proposes through the painting titles. Her work is mostly large scale mixed media paintings, and her tools include custom-made knives and large-format brushes. Her hope is that the seemingly tangible texture of her abstract painting evokes emotional experiences and personal responses for her observers.
Chris is a juried member of the National Association of Women Artists. Her work has been exhibited on both the East and West Coasts and resides in many private collections. She has clients as far away as Singapore.
Born and raised in New Rochelle, New York, Chris moved to the Washington, DC metropolitan area in the 70's with her family. Her artistic journey was initiated late in life and inspired by her friend, Joanna Abizaid of Cline Rose Design. Chris can be found happily painting the hours away in her Vienna, Virginia studio.
